Will have a chance to compare the Chibi Saru versus the Bluenote Stibbert and maybe the Bel Canto DAC2.
Of course i will be using my Senn HD580s for comparison.

Immensely!..in fact i feel that for the first time the Senns are not able to do justice to the CD player. There is loss of control on some bass notes. But the details from the Bluenote is simply unbelievable. Especially with the Senns being directly driven from the RCA outs i can honestly say that the Loreena McKinnitt CD The book of Secrets, sounds completely different. So does Diana Krall's Live in Paris.

awesome, dude!
I think that you will like the Chibi Saru DAC. I don't know about the battery option - it'll sure be quiet but I hope that the battery has enough juice to power the transients? Otherwise, I'm apprehensive that you might make an incorrect conclusion!

The Bluenote Stibbert is supposed to be an incredible CDP. I own their turntable, which is also immensely musical. I really also like the DAC2.
My Saru DAC+ & the DAC2 were neck & neck. I found almost an equal # of pros & cons for both units & could live happily with either.

Like Arj wrote, ADD DETAILS when you post your findings. We are looking forward to this head-head DAC shoot-out!

The Chibi DAC is actually a DACKit assembled by someone on diyaudio.com. So paying about 15$ more for the soldering services. It runs off an SLA battery and comes with a charger.
Here is a picture of the DAC.http://picasaweb.google.com/sachi.kenobi/ScottNixonDAC
It does not have an enclosure but i plan to mount it on a piece of wood or put it in a cardboard box.

Will definitely give an in depth review.

boy! that DOES look like an assembled kit!
hopefully your RCAs will not pull too much on those o/p wires & stress that solder joint.
that whole set-up looks fragile......
The battery is huge & it should be OK & it's good to see that it has a charger too.
So, you charge off-line & then play the DAC?

we look forward to your comparison notes. Thanx!

Yeah..i know. However, this is going in my bedroom/desktop system. So the output RCAs will be permanently connected to my headphone amp.
So i don't think it will be stressed at all.

I will however eventually mount the DAC in a box.

Yeah, i charge it off line. Apparently the DAC is only 2 months old and so are the batteries. These Sealed Lead acid batteries come with a lifetime of about 5 years. They play for several days before needing a charge.

They are used in these amplifiers and DACs www.redwineaudio.com
Goes on and on about SLA batteries and their advantages.
Interesting read. The person, Vinnie used to provide the service of populating and installing the Scott Nixon DACKit in an enclosure.
