Was enjoying a lively discussion on another Audio Forum on Supertweeters. As the name suggests, Supertweeters operate in the frequency range of 15khz to 90 khz where most of us cannot hear. So what are its applications or advantages ?

Users claim, that the sound appears to be more fuller with a lot of air and balance, the Bass becomes tight and tactile and that it adds an Octave to the lower registers too. Before you pass this off as some sort of New Year's Joke, read furthur.

there is a thory of tactile infllunece in freq higher than 20kHz too ie some parts of the exo-skeleton which gives the feeling of more "air" but cds anyway have a limitation on 20Khz

LP afficiandos may want to experiment on thatr a little bit more as many classic spealers like harbeths also have extensions up to 40Khz now.

but putting up a supertweeter is not so easy as you need to match the freq response well to the main speakers and also contro the crossover as you will want 10Khz and above to be taken up by by it.

No Saachi this time I disagree. Only because these Tweeters such as ACapella's ion tweeter, Cadence's ESL panel, Heil's Air Motion Transformer, the Manger Transducer, Accouton's ceramic tweeters etc. work beyond the audible range you get this airiness and transperancy which you do not get with tweeters which work up to 20kHz or so. I think the reason why most LS designers stay away from super tweeters is that it's extremely difficult to integrate them with rest of the range below.

Somewhat unrelated .... a year or so ago, I was reading a write up on a software package for recording.

One of he features was the addition of low level, wideband noise. ... to create extra depth and better soundstage....
