Superb. She sings standards with a jazz quartet.

You jazz fans would love it. Very good recording too.

Tannhauser and Rienzi overtures and the
Ride of the valkyries amongst others.

Carlos klieber VPO, brahms sym no 4. Also excellent, I believe this recording has been remastered on "Esoteric" equipment by DG and was klieber's last studio recording, also limited availability.
Am now looking for his recordings with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester which are as good as the VPO or better.

My last visit to rhythm house has been very fruitful :-)
Amazing music was recorded in the 60's,70's,80's !

1) Beethoven sym no 3 "eroica" + egmont/coriolan/prometheus overtures

2) Beethoven sym no 9 "choral"

This is from the full beethoven symphony set that Karl Bohm had recorded for DG.

Bombaywalla ! Your dad is gonna love this ! Get him the cd's if he doesn't have em yet. Better still get him the whole set !

A bit slower in tempo than the Karajan versions but immensely melodious and enjoyable. The presence of so many more instruments in the orchestration are heard rather than a loud dynamic mish-mash(like a few versions out there). Its a new perspective for me and a damn good one at that.

I now wanna hear Claudio Abbado play this.

what's the catch guys?!

The antal dorati and lso tchaikovsky symphony cycle. Another example of the fine mercury living presense sound with antal dorati's uncanny combination of lilting melody and fire. Perfect for Tchaikovsky symphonies. There was the much celebrated mravinsky's set as well but I chose the mlp and am glad I did. Also the london symphony orchestra is in fine form throughtout.

I am getting addicted to the mercury sound. Every time I enter a cd shop I have got an eye out for mercury living presense and I manage to find one or two :-)

Tysuyoshi Yamammoto Trio - Midnight Sun

Tchaikovsky's 2nd symphony....from the antal dorati cycle.

Its after probably more than 20 years that I have heard a good version of this symphony. And I compare it with a version I used to own as a teenager, on a russian melodya lp with yevgeni svetlanov as the conductor. That was the best rendition of this symphony I have heard. The recording was not much to speak off but musically very very satisfying. And now this dorati lso version after hearing a few non-starters(in my books) over the years.

After carrying a strict notion of "russian music is best played by russians", I am now willing to look at exceptions. It brought a smile to my face after a hard days work.
