Thiruda, Thiruda.

...and you know what I find it as fresh and surprising as I did in '93.

Each song is a gem !

A.R Rehman's best.IMHO.

In fact I still hold that the music he composed in the early years are his very best.

Somehow, his more recent stuff, good as it is, is simply not as fresh and surprising any more.

Cheers

May be it is the music and performance, SACD is good, much better than CD Eventhough my player converts DSD to PCM the difference is quite noticeable. Would be glad to hear experience of other members.

These are my fav Paris tracks.
The devil may care
is great instrumental jazz, with a nice drum solo at 5 mins.

Just acquired a Richard Clayderman and Back DVDs. Will post when I hear them

On next week's hit list, is the Readers Digest Moonlight Piano collection of 5 discs. Anyone got these? They look very promising

Does anyone hear listen to Il Divo? Their duos with Celine Dion are captivating.

Hi Anil,
I just started on the first disc. It's definitely pleasant music - nice to put me in a good mood, while I work at the computer

I'm turning into a video buff - struggling to back up my big DVD-9s into small DVD-5 discs. Trying my first experiment with DVD Shrink right now. Was watching Lord of the Rings 3 this morning - fantastic video and sound track. But, needs concentrated viewing as 3 story lines progress at the same time.

Recently went to Berlin and had the life-time opporutnity to attend 3 concerts at Philharmonie Berliner:

1. Bruckner by Deutsche Symphony Orchestra
2. Carmina Burana by Berlin Choir
3. Ravel by Redfunk Simphonie Orchestra

Out of the world experience. I liked Carmina Burana the most. I bought following CDs from there:

1. 12 CD Set of Berliner Philharmoniker - celebrating their 125 years
2. Mozart - Eine Kline Nacht Musik - Herbert von Karajan (Berliner Philharmoniker)
3. Bruckner - Sir Simon Rattle (Berliner Philharmoniker)
4. Carmina Burana - Sir Simon Rattle (Berliner Philharmoniker)

I haven't yet opened the 12 CD set but the other 3 I have been listening to - amazing stuff.

Hi Sanjay, nice to see you "in the arena" again!
Thats a pretty great set of music you've got there-are they CDs or SACDs?
Carmina Burana is an exhilerating composition;must have been a knock down experience to hear it performed by a full fledged orchestra!

Sanjay,
Which Bruckner did you hear? Who was the conductor. I am something of a Bruckner fan, but also recognise that he can be a ponderous bore. In some ways Bruckner is a symphonic composer who does not reproduce well on a system at home. The scoring is complex and the harmonies are essential to his work. The rhytms are elephantine and ponderous. Unlike say Brahms (a very different and greater composer it goes without saying)who does not rely on scale for impact, Bruckner is all about impact. In a sense he is a sensualist much like a high power rock band seeking effects over and above the music itself.
In short what is it like to listen to Bruckner live. Is it worth it musically, or is the guy a pompus windbag.

Dear Purnendu,

I attended the following concerts:

•15 June Friday 8 pm: Philharmonie
Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Herbert Blomstedt, Richard Goode
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Anton Bruckner
•16 June Saturday 8 pm: Chamber Music Hall
Camerata vocale Berlin, Canzonetta Kinderchor, Jochen Wittur, Klavierduo Andreas Lisius, Inga Hilsberg, Etta Hilsberg
Carl Orff, Camille Saint-Saëns
•17 June Sunday 11:00 am: Philharmonie
Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin
Marek Janowski Dirigent
Sophie Koch Mezzosopran
Christian Schmitt Orgel
Maurice Ravel
Le Tombeau de Couperin
Ernest Chausson
Poème de l'amour et de la mer
Camille Saint-Saëns
Symphonie Nr. 3 c-Moll op. 78 »Orgelsymphonie«

And the Bruckner CD that I bought is Symphony 4 by Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and it was the same symphony played in the concert. I hear Bruckner for the first time there and immediately liked it.
