Akai GX-52 Tapedeck Display

This Tape-Recorder has a NEC Custom-Made FIP (Fluorescent Indicator Panel) type FIP26AW15Y, Akai Partno: EM-373136.
All this information will not do you much good, unfortunately as you can not find any information on it searching the Internet.

All FIP's have a heater-element that is supplied with either a low-voltage AC or DC and a corresponding Converter/Inverter. It is the output of this Voltage-Module that has de-coupling electrolytic capacitors that may become defective and lower the light-output from the display.

Again, unfortunately the Akai GX-52 isn't made in this way. The heater is supplied from the mains transformer directly with 5V AC/50Hz.

On the System Control Board (T2100A502A) there MAY be a component that can influence on the light-intensity; the zener-diode D11 HZ7B-2 next to R105/R106 100-Ohm 1/4Watt. I believe this is a 7,2Volt/500mWatt Zener-diode and changing this value may alter the intensity. 6,8V and 8,2V are standard-values that may be tried-out. (Like BZX79C8V2 and BZX79C6V8)
This zener makes a ground-reference for the heater-supply and is not responsible for regulating the actual heater-voltage.
